Cat's Out of the Bag is the 9th episode of the Third Season, and the 53rd episode overall.
CAT’S BELIEFS ARE PUT TO THE TEST – After a force more powerful than anything they have ever encountered ruined Cat (Kristin Kreuk) and Vincent’s (Jay Ryan) big day, Cat becomes convinced they are in over their heads and begins to doubt their ability to stop the threat, forcing Vincent, JT (Austin Basis), Tess (Nina Lisandrello) and Heather (Nicole Gale Anderson) to band together in hopes of convincing Cat of her greater purpose.
Vincent wants to go after Liam, but, Catherine “is done” and wants to go back to being a regular cop. At the precinct Cat tells Ward about Liam, the “Interpol terrorist who killed Julianna”. She believes that they should treat Liam like any other criminal and follow police procedure.
Someone tries to steal Julianna’s body from the morgue. Catherine assumes it was Liam, but turns out that it was just her husband who tried to pick up a trail to track Liam. Vincent explains that Julianna’s blood was drained from her body. Vincent thinks Liam took Julianna’s blood because Liam believed she was enhanced with the serum. Cat is determined to do everything by the book and she even takes Vincent to the precinct for questioning.
After Tess releases Vincent from police custody, they band with JT to ambush Catherine and take her to her apartment for an intervention. Heather shows up in the middle of the argument and takes her sister’s side. Cat leaves. Vincent takes it out on Heather. He tells her that she doesn’t understand that there are other people’s lives at stake.
In Il Canttuccio’s back room, Heather drowns her sorrows. JT comes to give her a pep talk and fill her the destiny backstory. JT hands her Rebecca Reynolds’ journal and explains that the journal proved to Catherine that “she and Vincent are destined to do more.”
Since Liam is after the serum-enhanced blood, Catherine and Tess stake out Tyler Zane at the mental hospital, in hopes of catching Liam. When they hear automatic fire, Tess calls for back up. Vincent jumps out of the window. Cat and Tess try to shoot the gunman but realize it is not Liam. Vincent informs Cat that Zane is dead.
Catherine brings her fiancé to the hospital where she concludes that Liam is a case for Homeland Security. Cat and Tess come up with the explanation of how the DHS contacted them and why this case belongs to them. Ward is on board and so is Homeland Security.
JT attempts and fails to separate the good and bad in Julianna’s blood. He focuses on making Heather believe in “destiny”. Heather is not impressed with that piece of 18th century literature. JT argues it is destiny. Heather is not yet convinced… so JT decides to do something extreme and take Heather to see Reynolds. Robert believes that Vincent and Catherine are meant to pick up where Alistair and Rebecca left off.
Vincent tracks Liam to Alton Finn’s loft. Vincent arrives just in time to save Alton, who was cured from the serum. Liam is going after anyone who had the serum in them at some point. Catherine realizes JT is next.
Cat calls to warn him and finds out that Heather is with him. Cat doesn’t get very far in the conversation because Liam’s henchmen shoot up the Gentlemen’s Club. JT uses his video games and a small chemical explosion to distract the shooters long enough to lock himself and Heather inside the vault. JT gets the security system up and running just in time to see Liam’s henchmen attaching explosives to the vault door.
Fortunately, Vincent-beast arrives just in time to save the day and take out the explosives and all but one henchman. Right when the final hired gun is about to shoot Vincent, Cat and Tess shoot the gunman. JT opens the vault door. Heather hugs Cat. JT asks the younger Chandler if she believes “in destiny now?” After checking on JT, Catherine finds Heather on a bench outside the Gentlemen’s Club. Heather tells her sister about meeting Cat’s father and how it is Cat’s destiny to solve these cases.
Tess finds JT at Il Cantuccio’s back room, enjoying a drink. JT knows that as long as Liam thinks the serum is inside him, the beast will be after him.
Catherine goes home and finds Vincent on the roof. They accept their lives are part of a larger scheme but they know they have had some pretty great moments too. Vincent says nothing is worth it without Cat and that he is ready to do whatever she chooses. Cat wants to stop Liam because that is who she is. So they agree to face the evil forces. Together.
Heather: I don't think that you can just quit this, Cat. I mean, look at what happened today. It all comes back around to you, whether you want it to or not.
J.T.: I'm getting good at being attacked. Now you know why I like Scotch.
Heather: Never seen Vincent that mad before.
J.T.: You've never seen him beast out?
Cat: Don't make me arrest you, honey.
