Plot[]

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Catherine tries to cover up her bruises that Vincent gave her with makeup and a scarf. Heather shows up to tell her she got a job at one of the “top PR companies in the country”. The catch of the job is that it is in Miami and Heather would have to move there. Heather is also trying to find a way to tell her sister that her dad wasn’t her dad. Cat is too busy hiding her neck bruise to notice.

At the Gentlemen’s Club, JT works out. Vincent walks in on him and asks about Catherine. JT, unaware of the beast attack, assumes Vincent feels sorry for not remembering her. So, JT gives Vincent the highlights: Dad’s wedding, Pool, etc. Vincent, remorseful, confesses what he did and asks JT to tell Cat he is sorry and it will never happen again.

Agent Tucker calls Vincent because he found another target. Tucker doesn’t get to go into the details because the target-beast kills him.

Catherine meets Gabe at Il Cantuccio. Cat justifies Vincent behaviour, saying he is a victim himself. Cat wants to stop Vincent, but it is not about saving his soul anymore, it’s about protecting New Yorkers. Cat tells Gabe about her plan to sneak into Vincent's houseboat to figure out who pulls his strings. She also tells Gabe she slept with Vincent. Tess calls to tell them a beast murdered Agent Tucker.

Gabe and Catherine meet with Tess at the crime scene. Cat denies that Vincent killed the FBI agents. Reynolds arrives and takes the body from the cops. Cat gets a call from JT. He tries to tell her about Vincent’s apology by proxy, but Cat is just thrilled he inadvertently alibied Vincent out. Catherine reminds Tess about her “party tricks” where she used to teach people how to cheat polygraphs.  Tess gives her two tips: block sweat glands with antiperspirant, and press on a tack (inside her shoe) when telling the truth to establish a base line higher than normal. After a test run, Cat prepares for the next phase of the plan.

Agent Tucker got a message to Vincent before dying “Friday at 5…”. Vincent goes to the crime scene where he finds Sebastian Clifton. While Vincent is snooping at the parking lot, Sebastian calls him and taunts him. Vincent says, “I don’t play games”. Sebastian says, “It’s not a game, it’s 'Magic'”. Sebastian runs in circles and points out that if there is a “Beast Blacklist”, Vincent is on it too.

Meanwhile, Catherine sneaks onto Vincent’s houseboat. She downloads Tucker’s file before Vincent gets home. Vincent seems so happy to see Cat there he doesn’t even question her motives for being there. He apologizes. Cat tells him the “lie” she rehearsed in response: “I came to talk about our relationship”. He is excited they still have a “relationship” to talk about. Vincent says that what he did is “killing him” and asks her to give him another chance. Vincent was having a “great time with her” until… it happened. Cat lets her guard down a little. They set a date. Vincent thanks Cat for giving him another shot.

Later, JT decrypts the file Catherine stole. All he gets is a bunch of art gallery names and the same “Friday at 5…” incomplete message. In the meantime, Vincent gets flowers for his date with Cat. Reynolds calls to get Sebastian’s description. Vincent tells his handler about the British beast. Bob identifies Sebastian as the son of Art Gallery owner Nigel Clifton and former Muirfield experiment. Vincent asks where he stands on the beast blacklist. Reynolds tells Vincent he is not on it. Bob also tells Vincent there is a security breach.  Vincent realizes it might be Cat.

Catherine meets with Heather who makes a pro/con list about moving to Miami. Heather informs her sister that Thomas is not Cat’s biological dad. Cat is furious at Heather for not telling her, despite the fact that she'd known for so long. She angrily tells Heather to go to Miami. Cat goes home. Vincent is there for their date, which Cat forgot. Emotional, Cat, talks about her awful day. Vincent is on to her deception and he is not in the mood for being a supportive boyfriend. He doesn’t react to Cat’s confession about her dad and just leaves.

Vincent goes back to his boat and finds proof that Catherine stole his files. Meanwhile, Cat tells Tess that Vincent is on to her. She feels awful after witnessing Vincent’s defeated look when he realized she had been playing him. Cat just wants to quit the plan, but Tess reminds her that they are doing it for the public. Vincent calls her. He uses JT’s info about their relationship and pretends to remember the hotel pool. He tells Cat to meet him there. She gets suspicious when he tells her to meet her there in an hour. As soon as she agrees she calls JT to verify that the hotel pool memory was on of the parts of his cliffs notes version of their relationship. JT Tells her yes and she tells him that Vincent just tried to use it as a "remembered" memory.

Catherine knows that Vincent is keeping her from “something”. Cat, Gabe and Tess revel that Nigel commissioned a painting called Friday at 5. At the gallery, Cat approaches Vincent. Cat tells Vincent they should continue their conversation on the dance floor.

Vincent accuses Cat of using him and seeking revenge. Cat, hurt, explains how she always puts him first and that everything she has ever done was to protect him. That she only wanted to learn the truth so she could set him free and they could be together. Vincent notices her sincerity and realizes he screwed up when he lied to her about the “memory”. After facing her true feelings, Cat walks away. Sebastian arrives and threatens to make Catherine “disappear”.

Elsewhere at the gallery, Nigel explains to Tess the painting “Friday at 5” was a tribute to his son because they used to go to the magic store every Friday at 5. They conclude that Sebastian is at the gallery to “come back from the dead” and kill his father.

Vincent tries to get Nigel away by telling him there is a threat on his life, but that doesn’t do the trick. Catherine tries a different approach and tells him she spilled wine on his Jackson Pollack in the elevator. Nigel runs to the aid of his art piece. Cat tells Vincent to keep Sebastian away while Tess and Gabe evacuate the guests. Cat comes out as a cop and tells Nigel his life is in danger.

Sebastian knocks out Vincent with a chair. Sebastian goes to the elevator where Catherine tranqs Mr. Clifton before he sees Nigel in beast form. Sebastian breaks the roof of the elevator. Cat points her gun at him. Sebastian attacks Cat. Her frantic heartbeat wakes up Vincent. So, Vincent-beast comes to the rescue and pushes Sebastian down the elevator shaft. After Sebastian falls to his death, Cat loses her balance. Vincent grabs her hand. When he touches her hand he is hit by a series of memories: the train, saving her from Muirfield and sitting on the fire escape. Vincent, overwhelmed, jumps after Sebastian’s body.

Catherine goes home where she finds Heather is willing to give up her PR career. Cat says she was a hypocrite for keeping secrets. Heather concludes that lying to someone close to you changes your entire relationship. Even if the intentions are good, it damages the relationship and it is not worth it. Cat convinces Heather to move and take the Miami job.

At the precinct, Gabe and Tess talk about the case. Tess correctly guesses that Gabe has a crush on Cat.

Back at home, Catherine sees Vincent sitting outside and opens the window. She asks if the “fire escape” was part of JT’s cliff-notes.  Vincent says he remembered it. Cat does not entirely buy it. Vincent apologizes for lying and he explains that he couldn’t trust her because he didn’t remember her. Cat says it’s not just about the lies they told each other over the last few days. It’s about the fact that he isn’t willing to tell her anything about who he is and what he does. Vincent is not ready to share everything just yet but, he doesn’t want to push Cat away anymore. Cat tells him that she cannot be in a relationship based on lies. And she closes the window on him.

Quotes[]

J.T.: It's just, after everything you two have been through, I don't know if that'll be what she wants.
Vincent: It doesn't matter. Look, I don't want to hurt her and I can't tell her the truth so, just please, check on her.

Cat: That relationship that you're remembering? We never lied to each other. I just can't... I can't handle it. I can't live with any more lies. It's too hard.

Gabe: Your partner wants to go undercover, pretend she is his girlfriend even though she is his girlfriend, even though he doesn’t remember that!

JT: He does have plenty to sue over

Gabe: What are we gonna do if a beast brawl breaks out? Improvise?

Cat: I thought I had Daddy issues.
