Early Life[]

We grew up together. Her (Alex), me, J.T, my brothers.

Little is known of Vincent's early life and childhood. He grew up in Astoria, Queens with two older brothers, William & Daniel, and two childhood friends, Alex Salter and J.T. Forbes.[2] Vincent, Alex, and J.T all remained friends well into adulthood. Vincent and J.T were even roommates in medical school. Alex and Vincent's relationship became romantic, and they got engaged. However, after the death of Vincent's brothers in the twin tower attacks in 2001, Vincent gave up his medical career to join the army and ended his engagement to Alex.

Military Career[]

After I lost both my brothers in the towers, I enlisted in the service. I had the chance to make a difference.
Vincent in Afghanistan
Vincent serving in Afghanistan.

Vincent enlisted in the army in late 2001. When he arrives in Afghanistan, he gets tapped to join a project called Operation Muirfield. He was told that he was being injected with antibiotics, vitamins, and steroids that would protect him, when in fact, he was being injected with a serum designed to trigger rapid genetic mutation. This made him "stronger, faster, better." Moreover, they heightened his reflexes and all his senses. However, there were some unforeseen consequences – when his adrenaline started running high, he turns into a terrifying beast, unable to control his aggression.

When the experiments started running awry, becoming destructive and unstoppable, they decided to shut down Muirfield and gave orders to eradicate all the soldiers who became experiments, along with any trace that Muirfield ever existed. Vincent manages to survive the attack executed to kill his unit. The military reports him killed by enemy fire in Afghanistan.

Missing years[]

Except you go out there and you save people.

Vincent came back to New York, where he reconnected with J.T., who hid him from Muirfield and the public eye. Vincent went into a self-imposed isolation, cutting off all contact from the outside world. He and J.T. worked to find a cure for his condition, but after multiple failures, Vincent gave up.

In 2003, when Muirfield agents killed Vanessa Chandler, Vincent saved her daughter, Catherine, from being killed as well because she witnessed the murder. After this, Vincent kept an eye on Catherine from a distance, making sure she was safe.[3] From time to time, he also saved other people who were being attacked or harmed, becoming known as a vigilante.

Season One[]

In the first episode, Vincent sees Catherine come and question J.T. after Vincent's prints show up at a crime scene she's investigating when he tried to save the woman who was killed. Vincent recognizes her as the girl he saved nine years before. Eventually, Catherine comes back later on her own, and finds Vincent. He begs her not to tell anyone he's alive, and she leaves, but is intent on getting answers when she sees an article about her mom's death in his belongings.

Vincent & Catherine's first meeting

Catherine meets a Muirfield agent for answers, but almost gets killed. Vincent is nearby, and mauls both her attackers before throwing them, saving her life again. When Catherine chases him, she's almost hit by an oncoming train, but Vincent pulls her out of the way. Catherine realizes who he is. The two tentatively start a friendship and, despite his insistence for her to stay away, Vincent starts to find comfort in Catherine's company. Catherine is, at first, hard-pressed to stay away from Vincent, to the point that she takes a photo of his unit and tries to find information on Muirfield. Vincent becomes angry, telling her he's not one of her cases. Catherine eventually realized her mistake, apologized to Vincent, and stopped looking into Muirfield. She became angry later when Vincent followed her around, but she couldn't even come and talk to him. Vincent later decided to ease up and let her contact him so that she could not feel left out.[4]

Vincent would often find victims or suspicious people around the city, and let Catherine know so she could investigate. He also used to give her hints about cases she was investigating. The two became close over time. When Catherine was abducted by Muirfield, who were trying to get to Vincent, they try to scare her into giving up Vincent. Vincent saw that Catherine was scared of him, and turned himself in to protect her.[5] Catherine, though, shows up and helps Vincent avoid being captured and killing the Muirfield agents.

Vincent became jealous when her co-worker, Evan Marks, kissed Catherine at her birthday party. However, she later told Vincent that she just wanted to have dinner with him rather than have a big party, and invited him over. When Vincent was heading over, he blacked out and woke up on top of Brooklyn Bridge. Scared about what it meant, he started to avoid Catherine, who in turn backed off, believing Vincent wasn't interested in her. After another blackout, Vincent wakes up, covered in blood.

J.T. runs tests to find out the cause, and Vincent is shown to be violent when he blacks out. J.T. ends up having to tranquilize Vincent when he attacks him. He also finds out Catherine is investigating a murder near the same place where Vincent's blackout occurred. Vincent finds her and explains what is happening. He is proven innocent, but when the real killer kidnaps Evan, Catherine asks for Vincent's help to save him. He goes into the subway tunnels with Catherine, but he has another blackout there, and ends up ripping the killer to shreds, but saving Evan's life. He locks himself in a cage afterwards, and both he & J.T. believe Catherine is the trigger for the blackouts.[6]

J.T. helps Vincent induce the blackouts to see if they can figure out what the trigger is. Vincent has flashbacks of his time in Afghanistan, and remembers Catherine's mother being part of the Muirfield experiments.[7] They share this information with Catherine, who decides she wants to help them find out more. While he's under, Vincent finds out that the blackouts are actually a side effect of the experiments, and Vanessa was working on a serum to counter them. Catherine helps them locate the formula, and Vincent is cured of his blackouts. He & Catherine become close again. When Catherine shares how she wants Vincent to be her date for her father's wedding, he shows up and they share a dance. However, she later tells him that Evan found out his animal DNA is mutating, taking over his human DNA, and Vincent leaves.

Catherine goes after him, but ends up seriously hurt. Vincent pulls her out of her car, but leaves when Evan & her sister, Heather, show up and save Catherine's life. At the hospital, he visits her and runs into Alex, who is Catherine's attending nurse. He finds Alex later, and tells her not to tell anybody he's alive, because they're both in danger. Catherine finds out Alex has a stalker, and both she & Vincent think it's Muirfield. They later save her from the stalker, who was actually a former patient obsessed with Alex.

Vincent starts spending more time with Alex, realizing what his life could've been like if he hadn't been part of Muirfield. When he nearly gets caught by the police, Catherine saves him, but reams him out for being reckless and taking risks that would've put everyone in danger. Catherine doesn't want to admit that she's actually jealous of Alex.[8] Eventually, though, she admits her feelings to Vincent; however, he chooses Alex.

When Muirfield tries to corner him & Alex while they're on a weekend getaway in the mountains, Catherine shows up to warn him. They work together against Muirfield. When a stun grenade knocks out Catherine, Vincent is so enraged, he transforms and kills two of the agents, while Catherine shoots & kills the third. Alex sees him, and walks away from Vincent, horrified by what he has become. Vincent later tells Catherine that he realizes the mistake he made choosing Alex over her.[9] Though Vincent wants to make things right, Catherine doesn't know if she can trust him anymore. This doesn't stop Vincent from trying, as he tries to win her back with romantic gestures on Valentine's Day.

Muirfield tries to get Alex to give up Vincent, who drugs him so they can capture him. However, when Catherine shows up, they convince her to let them go and later save her life when the Muirfield agent tries to kill Alex. Catherine helps Alex disappear, but not before Alex lets her know that Vincent is in love with Catherine.[10] Just as they decide to pursue a relationship, Vincent & Catherine are caught by Heather. Things are awkward when the three dine with Heather's date, Darius. Vincent suspects Darius is hiding something.[11]

Darius later turns out to be in debt to bookies, who attack him at a club while he's with Heather. When she goes looking for him, the bookies knock her out and force Darius to shoot and kill her. Vincent jumps in and saves Heather's life, but accidentally kills Darius. This causes huge ripple effects, as Darius is the brother of Catherine's boss, who becomes vengeful and intent on finding his brother's killer. Catherine, though, knows the truth and decides to stay with Vincent, leading to their relationship becoming romantic.

A task force is set up to hunt down Vincent, and Catherine is assigned to it. Her partner, Tess Vargas, also is assigned, and ends up cornering Vincent. She tries to turn him in, but after Vincent saves her life and Catherine talks to her, Tess decides to keep Vincent's secret. Soon after, Catherine finds out that Gabriel Lowan, the man in charge of the task force, is also an experiment of Muirfield, and is trying to find Vincent because he uses medication to control his beast transformations, and is hoping Vincent's blood can help him control it without the pills. Vincent agrees, and uses Gabe's medication to stop him from becoming a beast. He starts to believe he might have a "normal" life with Catherine, until J.T. figures out the pills will eventually kill him. Vincent, though, wants to believe he can take a chance to be happy with Catherine.

J.T. eventually finds out Gabe and his girlfriend, Tyler, are planning to kill Vincent to save Gabe. Gabe kidnaps Catherine to get to Vincent. Vincent finds Catherine, and he and Gabe get into a fight after transforming. Suddenly, a helicopter appears, and shoots down Gabe. Vincent is then captured in a net by Robert Reynolds, the head of Muirfield. Catherine tries to save Vincent, but he's taken away by Reynolds, his fate left unknown.

Season Two[]

Vincent re-surfaces in New York three months later, and Catherine tracks him down with J.T.'s help. He is seen being captured by Li Zhao, the creator of Muirfield, but he escapes and tries to kill Zhao. Catherine finds him at this point, along with J.T. and Gabe. They immediately notice he's changed, because he can now move fast enough to blur, and is more immune to tranquilizers. Catherine, J.T., and Gabe find out his memory has been wiped out, and he can't remember any of them. Vincent leaves later, but believes them when they say he knows them. Vincent is found to be carrying out hits on orders from Agent Reynolds, who anonymously poses as his handler. When Catherine shows up looking for him while he's hunting down Zhao, Vincent decides to save her instead of killing Zhao. They come over to her home; though he still can't remember her, he stays with her when she gets emotional.

Vincent later sneaks away and kills Zhao. Vincent next makes his way to Rikers, where he purposely drugs an inmate so he can interrogate him, posing as a doctor in the infirmary. Catherine follows him to Rikers, but Vincent kidnaps her, thinking she's a threat. However, he softens towards her, admitting he feels a connection. He leaves, saying he has work to do, though he doesn't specify what work. Catherine finds him at a club, where she realizes Vincent's on a mission to hunt down other beasts.

Vincent eventually comes to Catherine's apartment again, but becomes violent when she asks about his missions, and shoves Catherine away. He immediately regrets it and leaves. He meets up with J.T., and asks him to tell Catherine that he's sorry for what he did. He sees her again on his boat, where she says she's willing to forgive him. He asks her for a second chance, and they agree to a date. Vincent goes to meet Catherine, but realizes she was actually on his boat to get information about his missions. He lies to Catherine, claiming he had a memory flash, but Catherine realizes Vincent's on to her. She tracks him down to an art gallery, where his target, Sebastian, is supposed to be. Vincent thinks she's out for revenge, but she clarifies that she's been protecting him, and is hurt at his accusation. Catherine and Vincent eventually corner and kill Sebastian. In the process, Vincent saves Catherine and regains some memories of her. He later comes to Catherine's apartment, and reveals that he is starting to remember her; Catherine, though, decides to distance herself from him.[12]

Gabe comes to Vincent later alone, and offers a solution that could get rid of his beast side that worked with Gabe. He wants to test it before trying it on Vincent, and points him to Eddie Long, a pyromaniac beast. Vincent goes after him, but ends up getting knocked out. He's admitted to the hospital; while he's there, two arson officers show up to question him, and one happens to be Aaron Keller, Vincent's nephew. Vincent starts getting memory flashes of William, Aaron's father, and his family. He and Catherine later go to meet Aaron to help the arson investigators find Eddie. Aaron disappears when the targeted building is set on fire, intent on killing Eddie. Vincent goes in, and is able to save Aaron's life.

Catherine is attacked by a beast in her home, who is looking for Vincent. Vincent hears about the attack, and despite Catherine discouraging him, he tracks the beast down. He finds the beast, who turns out to be Zach Hayes, a soldier in Vincent's unit who was presumed dead. Zach apologizes for trying to kill Catherine, but she doesn't trust him. Vincent, however, realizes Zach could help him regain his memories. While they're hanging out at an army bar, Zach asks if he recalls Gabriella, a waitress. Vincent starts to recall Gabriella, and Zach shows his true colors – he's bitter at the fact that Gabriella dumped Zach for Vincent. Vincent wants to try and reason with Zach, but Reynolds calls him and reveals that Zach killed Gabriella, and is dangerous. Vincent, though, still tries to reach out to him. Zach refuses to be swayed, intent on killing Catherine to make Vincent suffer. Vincent, though, fights him off, and kills him. Vincent finds out he only has two more missions to complete.

Vincent's next target is Curt Windsor, a high-profile businessman. Vincent tries to kill Curt, but is surprised by how strong Curt actually is. When Curt tries to hurt his daughter, Tori, in the struggle, Vincent pushes Curt off, then takes Tori away. Initially, he hides her out, hoping to trap & kill Curt. However, when Catherine shows up, Vincent agrees to let Gabe try and get rid of the beast in Curt. Catherine convinces Curt to, making him choose between being a beast or getting Tori back. However, before Gabe can try it, Curt transforms and attacks Vincent. He rips Curt's heart out, literally, killing him. Catherine becomes scared of him after this.[13]

Vincent is sent to a warehouse for the next target, but realizes it's rigged. He figures out his handler is trying to kill him, as well. Gabe, J.T., and Tess try to help him & Catherine figure out who his handler is. When J.T. gets a lead to the FBI, Catherine says they should have dinner with Reynolds, who is also Catherine's biological father. Vincent comes over, albeit reluctantly. However, when Gabe and Tori later show up, Vincent reveals his beast side, and so does Tori, who discovered she inherited it from her father. Vincent realizes that Tori amplifies his beast powers somehow. Vincent leaves after finding out Tori is the next target. However, he finds her apartment rigged, and realizes that Reynolds is his handler. He and Tori manage to get out before the bomb explodes.

Vincent meets a relieved Catherine at her apartment; she tells him they need to arrest Reynolds, not kill him. She asks for Vincent's help to track down the bomb maker. With Tori's help, Vincent finds him, but Tori kills him before they can use him to trap Reynolds. Tori encourages Vincent to go after Reynolds on his own and not listen to Catherine. Catherine eventually arrests Reynolds, but Vincent intercepts her car, and tries to kill Reynolds. Catherine holds him at gunpoint, begging him not to kill to show he still has his humanity. Vincent still tries to kill Reynolds, and Catherine shoots him. Vincent gets away, and Reynolds is jailed. He & Catherine break up, and he starts dating Tori.

Vincent, afterwards, is bleeding out heavily, but refuses to go to the hospital for fear of being exposed. Vincent goes to J.T. for help; when J.T. gets arrested getting help, Catherine comes over. Meanwhile, Tori finds out someone else knows about beasts. Vincent tries to leave to see what Tori was blackmailed about, but Catherine and Tori protest he's in no condition to. When he refuses to listen, Catherine tranquilizes him. Vincent is revived by J.T., and heads to where Tori & Catherine are, saving them from the people who blackmailed Tori. Catherine calls the police so Vincent is treated for his gunshot wound. With encouragement from Tori, he comes forward and reveals himself to the press.

Vincent gains popularity as a war hero, but does not enjoy the attention that comes with it.[14] Vincent shifts his focus when J.T. is attacked for the shackle that the people who blackmailed Tori were after. Vincent tracks and corners the thief, then kills him after finding out they're trying to steal a gem from the Russian consulate. Vincent gets into the consulate, and finds Catherine there, working undercover with the thieves to recover the gem. He takes the gem before Catherine can, and finds out the shackle and gem fit together to make a "beast collar."

Vincent purposely goes public with Tori, getting photographed so someone will notice the gem and come after it. It's also noticed by FBI Agent Dana Landon, who sent Catherine undercover to recover the gem. She tells Catherine, Tess, and Gabe to retrieve it from Tori. When Tori won't hand it over, Tess and Catherine arrest her. Gabe & Vincent end up killing the thieves trying to get the gem, and Gabe tells Vincent the gem is connected to Rebecca Reynolds, Catherine's ancestor. Vincent later finds out that Catherine, Tess, and the precinct were taken hostage by the other thieves. He sneaks in, and finds Catherine. The two get into an argument, and Vincent looks to be leaving with the gem and Tori, but changes his mind and turns himself over to the thieves with the gem. He transforms, but Catherine is able to turn off the power, helping Vincent quell the thieves without getting caught. They later realize the gem can stop beasts. When the gem goes missing after the hostage situation is over, Vincent decides to stop his animosity, and work with Catherine to find the gem; the two become friends again.

While Vincent works with Catherine to find the gem, it causes friction between him & Tori.[15] Dana finds out Vincent's secret, but she keeps quiet because she wants to find out who killed her husband, Sam. J.T. ends up getting kidnapped, and Vincent finds out they are trying to capture a beast. Though Vincent wants to track him, Gabe warns him that he might be walking into a trap. The group splits up to find J.T. Vincent finds him in a dungeon, but discovers that Tori got there already, trying to save J.T. When Vincent finds Tori, he is too late to save her because her blood was taken so J.T. was forced to create a beast serum; she dies soon after. Vincent feels responsible for Tori getting killed, and apologizes to Catherine for not choosing them or his humanity when he had the chance.[16] Meanwhile, Catherine starts dating Gabe.

Vincent & Catherine try to find the person who ordered J.T. to create the beast serum. At first, the evidence they find points towards Gabe. Vincent later finds the beast serum J.T. made at Gabe's house, and confronts him about it. He figures out, though, that Gabe was set up by Sam Landon, who is alive and believed to have been an innocent prisoner in the scheme. Vincent, in the process, though, realizes that he's still in love with Catherine. At Sam & Dana's vow renewal, Vincent finds a bomb rigged to explode, and Gabe comes up with a plan to fake his death so Sam will carry out his plan. Vincent later saves Gabe; though Catherine chooses to be with Gabe, Vincent decides to try and win her back by redeeming himself.[17]

While Gabe is hiding out, Catherine & Vincent track Sam to the hospital where Vincent did his residency. She finds out Sam injected a patient with the beast serum, but he didn't transform and is now slowly dying. Catherine finds out that there is a gene that makes people change into beasts when injected with a serum, and that the group of kids from the orphanage Gabe grew up in carry this gene. Sam is able to find one of the orphans and turns him into a beast. Vincent tracks down the beast, who gets the upper hand and knocks out Vincent before escaping. Vincent admits to J.T. he's hesitant to use his beast side because he wants to change for Catherine.[18] J.T. is able to create an antidote for the beast serum, and Vincent sneaks into the hospital to give the antidote to the patient, saving his life.

Catherine finds out Sam is seeking revenge against the people who killed his son. Vincent tries to find the new beast Sam has created. Gabe, Catherine, and Vincent track down Sam and the other beast, Xavier. While Catherine is able to arrest Sam, Vincent is able to save Xavier, who is cured of the beast DNA when Vincent revives him. After Sam is arrested, Catherine comes to say goodbye to Vincent because she's decided to stay with Gabe. However, the two of them end up in bed together that night.

Vincent is hoping Catherine will choose to stay with him, but Catherine says their night together was a mistake, and she's staying with Gabe. Vincent doesn't give up, though, and says he'll fight for her. When Sam breaks out of prison, they shift their focus to finding him. Eventually, they track him to a masquerade ball, which Gabe, Catherine, and Vincent attend. Vincent asks Catherine to give him a second chance, because he can be the man she once believed him to be.[19] Catherine still rejects his attempts to reconcile, then deflects him to focus on finding Sam. Gabe finds out that Sam is going after a secret group who was behind Muirfield and other experiments to create beasts. They were willing to do anything to create beasts as weapons, including letting Sam's son die.

Vincent & Catherine reunite

Catherine & Vincent find Sam after he's created a beast to kill the whole group; Vincent is able to stop him. Despondent over not fulfilling his revenge, Sam contemplates suicide. Vincent stops him by encouraging him to help put the group behind bars rather than killing them. Catherine realizes Vincent has changed and breaks up with Gabe; when she comes home later, Vincent is waiting, and the two reunite. However, the following morning, Vincent is arrested for Curt's murder.

Catherine believes Gabe set Vincent up, but then begins to suspect her father did. Catherine locates the gem to give to Vincent so he's not able to change. Wanting to protect Catherine from being exposed as an accomplice, Vincent decides to plead guilty to the charges. When Catherine finds this out, she decides to come forward as a witness to prove the murder was self-defense. To prevent this, Vincent deliberately starts a fight to get hurt in jail, and later escapes from the ambulance transporting him, becoming a fugitive. Catherine finds him on the roof of her apartment, where he comes to say goodbye. However, Gabe comes by with evidence that could prove Vincent's innocence. When Gabe & Catherine try to find their suspect, they discover he's dead. Catherine then decides to run away with Vincent. Before they can escape, though, the police surround her place, and Catherine tells Vincent to go alone because she'll slow him down and he'll get caught; he leaves, but promises to come back for Catherine.

J.T. and Tess meet Vincent at a restaurant later, and inform him that Catherine is missing, possibly kidnapped. J.T. tries to distract the police while Vincent sneaks into Catherine's apartment to track her. Gabe shows up, though, and holds Vincent at gunpoint. Vincent then realizes Gabe is working against him. Vincent eventually tracks Catherine down, and finds out Catherine was taken by FBI agents who want her & Vincent's help to find an agent abducted by a terrorist cell. Vincent is reluctant to leave town without Catherine, but she feels there's not another option. Vincent, though, convinces Catherine to go to the FBI agents who abducted her.

Vincent & Catherine then meet up with FBI Agent Knox, who promises to get Vincent exonerated if they can help rescue his agent. They're able to rescue the agent without getting caught. However, Agent Knox reveals that someone blocked his attempt to get Vincent exonerated; Catherine & Vincent both realize it was Gabe. While Agent Knox works to get Vincent exonerated, he hides out but stays close to Catherine.

When Gabe has both Tess & Catherine suspended, Catherine suggests finding a way to get Gabe to back off. They manage to find an old murder case, and Vincent uses his senses to figure out that there was a witness who can identify Gabe as the murderer. Meanwhile, Heather comes back to town and is furious when she realizes Catherine is still dating Vincent, even though he's a fugitive. Gabe finds out about Catherine and Vincent's digging, and tries claiming Vincent was the murderer. Heather is kidnapped, and when Vincent shows up to rescue her, they end up getting trapped with a bomb to kill them both. Vincent transforms and is able to save Heather's life. Realizing who he is, Heather keeps Vincent's secret, and reconciles with Catherine. Meanwhile, Catherine finds the witness who identifies Gabe. Before he can testify, though, Gabe kills the witness.

Vincent & Catherine try to find where Gabe took the body in order to convict him. However, Vincent is recognized on the street, and has to run and hide. The two come to Agent Knox for help, and he puts them in a witness relocation program. Vincent & Catherine move to the suburbs, but are unable to maintain a low profile; they eventually return to the city. J.T. and Tess find out that Gabe has gone insane over losing Catherine.[20]

Agent Knox says that Vincent will be exonerated if he turns himself in, which Vincent agrees to. Meanwhile, Gabe goes to a reporter, Beth Bowman, and tells her everything about Vincent. Catherine goes to Gabe; she gets him to have Beth back off, but only if she agrees to a date with him. Catherine agrees to protect Vincent, but when Vincent publicly turns himself in at a press conference, Beth speaks up, asking about his mutated DNA and being a super soldier, but she's shut down.

While Vincent is in his cell, two agents come in, claiming they were sent by Knox. However, when he finds them watching Gabe and Catherine, he realizes that they're not working for Knox. Vincent demands to know who they're really working for, but when he sees Catherine go into Gabe's apartment looking for Vincent, he transforms in a rage; he passes out, though, because the agents were prepared. When he wakes up, Vincent realizes they were watching Gabe because he's a threat; he offers to neutralize the threat so they will let him go, and they agree.

Vincent arrives at Gabe's apartment, and finds Catherine desperately trying to resuscitate Gabe – they got into an argument, and she ended up beating him till he was unconscious. She asks for Vincent's help to save him; he does in order to calm Catherine down. Knox later gets in touch with Vincent, and reveals that he's been exonerated by whoever took him out of the cell. Meanwhile, Heather decides she wants to press charges against Gabe for her kidnapping, and Catherine threatens to expose him if he ever tries to hurt Vincent again. Vincent and Knox later come back to the same place Vincent was taken to, and find it completely empty. Vincent realizes the agents took a DNA sample while he was unconscious.

J.T. finds out that Gabe became a beast again, injecting himself with the serum J.T. made, and killed Beth the same way Vincent killed Curt. Catherine believes that Gabe is trying to provoke Vincent into going after him. Gabe also kills Agent Knox in the same brutal manner, and Vincent goes after Gabe against Catherine's wishes. Catherine, J.T. and Tess are able to find Vincent, tranquilizing him before he can get to Gabe. Catherine locks up Vincent, and uses the gem to make sure he can't escape. Catherine later comes back, though, and lets him out, realizing her mistake.

Catherine and Vincent go to find J.T., who is compiling evidence to convict Gabe. However, they find him mauled after Gabe attacked him. Vincent is furious about this, and tries to go after Gabe alone, but Catherine convinces him not to. Together, the two of them are able to trap Gabe; before the police can arrest him, though, Catherine kills him in self-defense. The evidence, though, is enough to clear Vincent and get Catherine reinstated. When they check on J.T., Tess says the doctors think he won't make it, but they come to his room, and find out he'll recover. Vincent recognizes the "doctor" as Agent Thomas, the agent who took him out of his cell. Thomas & Agent Barnett say that there are other threats in the world that are worse than beasts, and they offer Vincent & Catherine the chance to join them to fight these threats before leaving. Vincent & Catherine later sit at a park and enjoy the moment – no longer having to run from the past or worry about their future, finally together like they always wished they could be.[21]

Season Three[]

Two months later, Vincent is going back to work as a doctor. He's also planning on proposing to Catherine. However, he finds out she's been talking to Thomas & Barnett behind his back about a new threat. He finds out they were attacked by someone capable of doing impossible feats. Catherine & Vincent both realize that the attacker, Tyler Zane, was actually enhanced by a serum the way Vincent was. Vincent is upset that Catherine got involved, and refuses to help them out. He later tells J.T., who convinces Vincent that he should help because he's the only one capable of stopping Tyler. Vincent goes to talk to Thomas, but finds Tyler instead, and tracks him down. He manages to stop Tyler from blowing up an office building, but before he can kill Tyler, Catherine stops him.

Vincent later finds Catherine, and agrees to help to stop the threat. Catherine tells him that together, they can stop bigger threats and save innocent people. Vincent tells her that he can't do it without her by his side, and proposes to Catherine. She happily accepts, and they get engaged. Vincent moves in with Catherine, but realizes his primal side is acting up over having to give up his own place. He tries to hide this from Catherine, but finally confesses the truth after J.T. is kidnapped by another superhuman experiment, Alton Finn. Catherine & Vincent figure out that J.T. was given a serum meant for Alton, who is suffering from an inoperable brain tumor that has given him the power to control electricity. Alton kidnaps J.T. to get the serum, but Vincent & Catherine are able to stop him. Vincent helps Alton find a surgeon who is able to remove the tumor based on notes that Alton had written up.

Agent Thomas is killed, and both Catherine & Vincent try to find out who is responsible. They team up with Bob & Carol Hall, two married DHS agents who take over the case. They figure out that Thomas was killed by a sniper. The same sniper tries to kill Catherine, and also shoots at J.T., destroying evidence that could've caught the killer. However, J.T. later helps Vincent & Cat figure out that Bob & Carol are the killers, who are also superhuman. The two confront Bob & Carol, asking who they're working for. Bob & Carol try to get them to say what they know about the experiments. The two couples start fighting, and Vincent transforms into a beast, exposing his secret to Bob & Carol. The superhuman couple escapes, though, and Vincent & Cat wait to see when they will return.

When Catherine suspects a wealthy organ recipient of being behind the superhuman experiments, Vincent argues with her about putting the case ahead of their relationship. Their fight causes them to go separate ways when trying to solve a case. However, they team up again when their paths cross again and they end up getting trapped together. The two start to make amends during this time, and after solving the case, the two go for couples' counseling. The therapist tells them that in order to resolve their issue, they need to figure out their lives separately so they're not completely dependent on each other. Catherine & Vincent agree, and decide to work on their relationship.

Following the therapist's advice, the two go their separate ways for a day, with Catherine working on a case and Vincent going upstate to provide medical care to those out of reach for a hospital. When he gets to the forest where he's been assigned, Vincent finds out it was actually a trap set up by Bob Hall, who tries to capture Vincent. Vincent tries to elude Bob and his many traps, and also figure out who Bob is working for. Bob doesn't reveal who his "boss" is, but lets it slip to Vincent that Carol has gone after Catherine to make sure she's not around to save Vincent. Vincent is furious and threatens to turn primal, but Bob says he wants to see that happen. Vincent does transform, but is quickly subdued by Bob.

Bob tranquilizes Vincent, and heads out of the forest. On his way out, though, he is stopped by J.T., who came to stop him. Vincent wakes up, and weakly tries to get J.T. to leave. J.T. refuses, though, and Bob hits J.T. with his truck. Enraged, Vincent transforms, becoming primal. He breaks free of his chains and kills Bob. Vincent is initially unable to turn back, but he calms down by recalling memories of Catherine and is able to become human again. J.T. is saved by the serum he was injected with, and Catherine is able to stop Carol, who dies after finding out Bob is dead. Vincent tells Cat that whoever injected Bob & Carol was after him, but Catherine says they'll figure it out, as they've shown they can handle a threat separately and together.

While Vincent is celebrating his bachelor party with J.T. and some distant relatives, a superhuman shooter interrupts, and ends up shooting Vincent's cousin, Hank. Vincent is able to stop the shooter, and contain him. J.T., though, later tells Vincent, Cat, & Tess that the shooter became superhuman because he was exposed to the serum that was engineered into a parasite. Cat suspects that someone created the parasite to flush her & Vincent out. The parasite soon causes an outbreak that Vincent has to handle at the hospital.

J.T. finds out the parasite and superhuman serum contain traces of beast DNA similar to Vincent's. Catherine & Vincent go talk to Reynolds to find out how they can stop the experiments. Reynolds suggests Vincent tracks them through the DNA sample. Catherine and Tess figure out who is spreading the parasite, and Vincent tracks him down. However, they find out he was actually a plant trying to find them. He manages to take a picture of Cat & Vincent, but dies before they can find out who he's working for. That night, Vincent & Cat meet to discuss their wedding when they're attacked by a superhuman assassin. The two escape, and end up going on the run.

Trying to get ahead of whoever is chasing them, Vincent & Catherine run to Canada and leave a trail to follow to make it look like they're eloping. Vincent is upset at the idea, though Catherine says it will not be real, just for show. The two find out that the assassin is actually trying to capture them alive, not kill them. When they get to Canada, Vincent backs out, telling Catherine he can't go through with it because it's not the way he wants to marry someone he loves. Just as he states this, the assassin appears and threatens to kill Catherine unless both of them come with him. They agree, and are brought back to Julianna Keaton, the scientist creating superhumans. Before Vincent can stop her, he's tranquilized by Julianna's muscle. Julianna reveals she found out about Vincent from Heather, whom she's also kidnapped.

Julianna keeps asking Catherine who sent them and where to find "him." Though Catherine insists they're not working for anyone, Julianna threatens to inject a drugged Vincent with a serum that will kill him. Julianna keeps thinking they were sent by someone specific, but Catherine denies this. Julianna doesn't believe her, and tries to inject Vincent. Just as she's about to, J.T. shows up and injects Vincent with an adrenaline mix that helps him wake up and break free. He frees Catherine, and manages to kill Julianna's superhuman henchman. Catherine beats Julianna unconscious, until Heather and Vincent both stop her. Vincent wonders if there's a threat out there that is worse than Julianna. Catherine, though, deflects it so they can focus on getting married.

When Julianna wakes up from her coma, Vincent and Tess question her, and she tells them she was trying to stop someone named Liam. She claims he tricked her into making him superhuman, now she's trying to find a way to stop him. Julianna tells Vincent that he's the only one who can stop Liam, if he's injected with the serum Julianna made. Tess tells Vincent to focus on the wedding, and sends him off to the rehearsal dinner while she tries to find out if Liam exists. During the rehearsal dinner, though, both Vincent & Tess get alerts that Julianna has escaped. They keep Catherine in the dark, and investigate with J.T.'s help. The two figure out that Julianna wants her equipment from the lab, and head to the police station to stop her. However, Julianna escapes with the serum before they can stop her.

Vincent tries to track Julianna down right before the wedding, but is unable to find her. When he finds out Catherine is missing and hasn't made it to the church, he realizes Julianna went after Catherine to get to him. He catches up with them just as Catherine subdues Julianna. They bring her to the church and detain Julianna, but Catherine leaves, upset that Vincent lied to her. Vincent apologizes, saying he was trying to save their wedding. The two head back to the church for the ceremony.

Just as Catherine makes her way down the aisle, the two realize something's wrong when the police chiefs suddenly leave the church. J.T. and Tess both say it's because of Liam right before Julianna's screams are heard by the whole church. Vincent & Catherine find Julianna's body, brutally ripped apart. Vincent tries to get Catherine to leave, but the two are attacked by Liam, who severely injures Vincent before escaping. Vincent decides to put the wedding on hold until he & Catherine can stop Liam. However, Catherine says she doesn't want anyone else to get killed because of Liam, and she's done trying to fight Liam, leaving Vincent shocked.

Vincent tries to get Tess and J.T. to help him change Catherine's mind, she remains steadfast in her decision to not go after Liam Cullen, Julianna's killer, by themselves, and treats it as a regular police case. She refuses to put anyone else at risk to find Liam, no longer believing in their destiny. Vincent still tries to track down Liam on his own, and finds out Liam has sent hitmen to take out Julianna's experiments. Just as Catherine hands over Liam's case to DHS, Vincent saves Alton from being killed by the hitman. He calls Catherine to let her know that Liam's men are going after J.T. The hitmen ambush J.T. and Heather, trapping them in J.T.'s place. Vincent shows up, and manages to take out several hitmen. The last hitman tries to shoot Vincent, but he's saved by Catherine and Tess, who shoot the hitman dead. Catherine finally comes to her senses, and tells Vincent they'll go after Liam together.

Liam manages to kill Alton while he's under police protection, and Vincent tries to track Liam down in order to save J.T. Catherine finds out Liam is going after Russell Keaton, Julianna's brother who's trying to avenge his sister's death. Vincent & Catherine try to protect him from Liam, but Russell escapes, wanting to find and kill Liam. Vincent & Catherine manage to track him to where J.T. is hiding, and Vincent realizes Liam is there, as well. Vincent starts to act more aggressive, itching for a fight and a chance to kill Liam. When he suddenly loses his temper with Catherine, she becomes worried. Vincent & Catherine find Russell's body, and Vincent realizes J.T. is still alive, but in danger. He manages to find Liam just as he finds J.T. While fighting with Liam, Vincent transforms, but then Liam transforms, revealing himself as a beast, as well. Liam suddenly leaves, and Vincent tries to follow him. Catherine stops him, though, saying they need each other to defeat Liam.

Vincent apologizes to Catherine for the way he acted, realizing he became more predator-like because he was tracking another beast. Catherine forgives him, saying they didn't know about Liam. Though Vincent is worried about turning into his old self, Catherine believes he's strong enough to fight it.

Season Four[]

Vincent is somewhat of a loner, often keeping to himself. Both intelligent and resourceful, after Muirfield, he withdrew into himself, becoming isolated from the world and self-loathing. He was trying to cling to his human side in whatever way he could, knowing that he could still be caring & compassionate. He also has been shown to value helping/saving people in need. His love for Catherine made him come out of isolation and break his streak of self-loathing. When Vincent's beast side is more prominent, he is emotionally detached, even from the ones he is closest to. His violent instincts are more discernible, and make him more dangerous. Living isolated from the world, Vincent is used to handling situations by himself; with his beast side, this part of him becomes even more evident when he impulsively takes action. Over time, Vincent gets more in control his beast side to be able to hold onto Catherine. He tries not to give into his instinctive reactions to prove to himself and the ones he cares about most that he isn't dominated by who he is as a beast. Throughout the show, he is often trying to find a balance between his humanity and beastly instincts to be able to hold on to his life, especially his love for Catherine.

Physical appearance[]

Vincent is tall with lightly tanned skin and a muscular build, almost like a bodybuilder, has brown eyes and dark brown hair. He has a scar on the right side of his face, extending from his eye to his jawbone, sustained when he got into a fight with a colonel in Afghanistan who tried to kill Vanessa when she threatened to expose Muirfield.[22] The scar disappears after he is captured by Muirfield and his DNA is super-charged. In the first season, his appearance is made to look like a vagrant, scruffy and a little unkempt. When he falls in love with Catherine, his appearance becomes more refined and well-groomed. In the second season, after being captured by Muirfield, his look changes to be reminiscent of James Bond, a refined and polished assassin. As the season progresses and Vincent starts recalling his past life and his love for Catherine, the assassin look starts to soften, as he is dressed in less elegant outerwear, but still refined like a soldier.

Vincent's look as a beast has been changed through the show. In the first season, whenever he transforms, his eyes glow yellow and his skin turns ash white in color. The blood vessels on his face, neck, and arms are visible to the point that the color can be seen. His nails turn into claws that are capable of ripping a person to shreds. His teeth also become jagged like a wild animal's when he transforms. After he is abducted by Muirfield and his DNA is super-charged, his transformation changes. His skin color no longer changes, and his veins, rather than showing the color, are bulging on his skin.

Catherine Chandler[]

Catherine is the love of Vincent's life and Wife. Watching over her for many years to make sure she was safe, Vincent is reminded that his humanity is still there. Catherine was the first person who accepted Vincent after what he had become. Though habits kicked in and he pushed Catherine away, Catherine refused to leave, and he became able to accept who he was because of their love, seeing his change as a gift rather than a curse. When Vincent chooses to be more beast than man, his decision ends their relationship. After their break-up, Vincent's dark side is shown, consumed by violence and rage, acting ruthlessly. He eventually realizes his mistake of letting his beast side take control, and resolves to redeem himself for Catherine. Though Catherine pushes him away, Vincent doesn't give up and fights to prove himself to her rather than back away and withdraw. Vincent starts to hate his beast side again, trying to let go of it to get Catherine back. When he starts to accept it again and use it for good, he regains Catherine's trust, and they reconcile. Catherine put her life, professionally and personally, at risk to protect Vincent from being exposed. This causes a conflict for Vincent, who risks his life to protect Catherine, often against her wishes. Vincent has told Catherine that he’s able to control his beast side only because of her. Vincent saved Catherine's life, but Catherine saved Vincent's humanity.

J.T. Forbes[]

J.T. is Vincent's best friend. The two grew up together, and J.T. understands Vincent more than anybody. When Vincent returned from Afghanistan as a beast, he came to J.T. because he was "the only person Vincent could trust."[23] J.T. lived out in an abandoned area, and provided Vincent with a place to hide from Muirfield and the public. He did around-the-clock research on Vincent's DNA, trying to help him find an antidote to reverse the beast transformation, desperately trying to cure him. J.T. still wants to believe Vincent would never intentionally hurt him. Eventually, J.T. reveals that the reason Vincent was chosen for Muirfield was because J.T. put his name on the list, hoping Vincent would have an advantage in battle. Realizing the mistake he made, J.T. helped Vincent out to make up for his mistake for years. Vincent still calls J.T. his best friend even after he finds this out. When Vincent becomes self-loathing again of his beast side after losing Catherine and Tori, J.T. tells Vincent that him being a beast is not a bad thing. His unwavering faith helps Vincent understand himself and realize he can still do good deeds, even though he's a beast.

Tori Windsor[]

Tori was Vincent's girlfriend. She was also a beast, and her powers amplified Vincent's beast abilities; their relationship was defined by their combined beast power. She intentionally separates him & Catherine, believing the fact that they are both beasts meant they should be together. When Vincent started to regain his humanity, he distanced himself from Tori. Tori was desperate to get Vincent back, and walked into a trap that led to her death. Tori told Vincent to go back to Catherine as she lay dying. After Tori's death, Vincent felt responsible for Tori dying, and realized his mistake in choosing to be more beast than human. As a result, Vincent worked to make amends with Catherine after Tori died. Catherine represents Vincent's human side; Tori represents his beast side.

Alex Salter[]

Alex was Vincent's fiancée before he enlisted and was experimented on by Muirfield. He broke off their engagement before being deployed, but Alex was still in love with him, even after he was presumed dead. When he met her again, she was hoping to pick up where they left off, not knowing what Vincent had become. When Alex gave him a chance to get his old life back, he decides to be with her. However, when Alex found out about him becoming a beast, she couldn't stay with him, realizing he wasn't the same man she fell in love with. Vincent realized that being with Alex was never about her, but about the life he had with her – the life he wished for. J.T. and Alex both say that Vincent was trying to bring closure to their relationship, because he felt guilty for leaving Alex behind, so he could move on with Catherine.[24]

Enhanced abilities[]

  • Superhuman Strength - Vincent has the ability to exert a level of strength far greater than the finest Olympic weight-lifter. He is able to tear a car door off, punch through windshields, wooden doors and snap a man's neck (albeit accidentally) with a mere shove. He is able to break free from handcuffs, chains and a special titanium restraint designed to hold him. He is able to bend metal bars, toss grown men across a room. He is strong enough to put his fist through humans' and other beasts' chests to rip out their hearts. He is able to stop a helicopter from taking off while anchoring himself to the ground. This ability is further strengthened when Vincent is in his "savage form" and also extends to the muscles in his legs.
    • Super Leap - Vincent's superior strength also applies to the muscles in his legs allowing him to jump incredible distances/heights and propel himself with enough force to damage a concrete wall.
  • Superhuman Speed - Vincent has the ability to move at speeds faster than the human brain can process making him appear like a blur, the exact extant of this ability has not yet been identified. He is also able to outrun point blank explosion on multiple occasions. This ability, coupled with his superhuman reflexes, allows him to perform extraordinary feats such as; dodging gunfire at mid to close range, catching a falling glass and escaping from an area in a short amount of time.
  • Superhuman Agility - Vincent is incredibly agile which allows him to jump down from tall buildings/Skyscraper without any injury. This along, with a bolstered metabolism, makes him nearly immune to disease and highly resistant to the effects of normal drugs/tranquilizers. After JT injects him with a healing serum similar to the version he was injected with, his cellular regeneration was boosted to yet unknown level.
  • Superhuman senses - Vincent, due to his transgenic status and the presence of animal DNA, has a number of highly refined and superior senses, these include but aren't limited to:
    • Superhuman Vision - Vincent has the ability to view things in a greater detail than any human ever could, this allows him to see the perspiration and dilation of a woman's pupils from the top of a large building; it is unknown however if he can see into other visual spectrums.
    • Superhuman Hearing - Vincent has the ability to hear things on a much greater range than humans, as well as inaudible sounds and can tell when someone is lying by listening to their heartbeats. This also allows Vincent to hear a conversation from blocks away and hear the increase in heartbeat from the top of a large building.
    • Enhanced Sense of Smell - Vincent has the ability to smell scents that are above that of a humans ability, this allows him to smell scents (and thus track people) in a city with scents that are days old, the ability to smell poison running through a woman's veins and able to identify someone who has someone else's blood on them.
  • Memory Recall - Vincent has the ability to remember and recall experiences and events perfectly accurately, no matter how much time had passed since the memory was formed. He can also go through his recalled memories in perfect detail to pinpoint or find things he has initially dismissed.
  • Ability Augmentation - Vincent has the ability consciously control his blood flow and their hemoglobin content to heighten specific senses.
